Most seniors, when given the choice between aging at home in a familiar environment and being placed in an Assisted Living Facility or nursing home, prefer to remain in their homes. According to scientific evidence, people perform and heal best at home. Giving seniors extra help is one way to keep them in their homes for as long as possible. While we cannot reverse the aging process, we can make it better by providing necessary and critical elder care services that allow people to remain in their homes.

About Our Elder Care Services

Companion care, personal care, housekeeping-type services, meal preparation, medication reminders, running errands, and ensuring seniors get to and from doctors’ appointments are all examples of non-medical elder care. While these services are not medical in nature, they are critical in keeping people in their homes as long as possible and out of hospitals and nursing homes.

Kimberly Pettigrew, MHA/MSL is the Owner and Director of At Home Eldercare of Winston-Salem, an in-home aide agency servicing seniors in Winston-Salem and surrounding areas. Kimberly is a graduate of Salem College where she received a BS in Business Administration and Pfeiffer University where she received her Masters in Health Administration and a Masters of Science in Leadership.
After graduation, Kimberly began her career working in Third Party managed care with organizations such as Medcost, LLC, Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC , and the United States Peace Corp Benefits Division where she excelled in claims review and processing, benefits administration, and personnel management for over 10 years.
Kimberly’s passion for home care comes from her work with third party managed care. Assisting her clients, especially our older population, with understanding their health benefits, what was available to them and how to determine what would be best for them based on their healthcare needs and then seeing her family members transition to the stage of wanting to age at home, maintain their dignity, and have companionship through it all, reinforced her desire to want to be a part of her community and assist those that have done so much for us.
Kimberly is also extremely active in the her community. She was raised on the philosophy that it takes a village and continues to put this into practice. She has volunteered with organizations such as Boy Scouts of America, Stop Child Abuse Now (Exchange/SCAN), Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Second Harvest Food Bank, The Salvation Army, and Christmas for the Community in partnership with Love Out Loud.
Professionally, Kimberly is also a member of ACHE (American College of Healthcare Executives), TRLA (Triad Retirement Living Association), and HIPSS (Healthcare Professionals Serving Seniors).
With all of this you would think Kimberly is busy enough, well she isn’t. Kimberly is also the mother of 2 young men, one currently serving in the U.S. Navy and an active 11 year old.

When given the choice between aging in place in their own homes in a familiar environment or being placed in an Assisted Living Facility or nursing home, the majority of seniors will choose home. According to scientific studies, people heal better at home. One way to keep seniors in their homes for as long as possible is to provide additional support. While we can’t stop the aging process, we can help people continue in their homes by providing necessary and critical services. Companionship, personal care, chore provider services, meal preparation, prescription reminders, errand running, and helping elders get to and from doctor’s appointments are all examples of non-medical care. While these services are not medical in nature, they are crucial in keeping individuals out of hospitals and nursing homes for as long as feasible.
